In my job as Practice Assistant here at Project Thrive, CT – I talk to a lot of people about what their families are going through mentally and emotionally right now. So many people are having trouble sleeping, managing anxiety and worrying about their kids, who – not surprisingly – are also suffering emotionally and mentally in numbers we’ve never seen before. Here are a couple of resources I wanted to share with you in hopes you will find a way to breathe a little easier, get to sleep a little faster and maybe even relax.

Sleepwithmepodcast.com – If you’ve ever had trouble falling asleep, staying asleep, getting back to sleep – up all night – this podcast can be magic. Drew Ackerman is the creator and host of Sleep With Me, a one-of-a-kind bedtime story podcast that’s been featured in The New York Times, The New Yorker, Buzzfeed, Mental Floss, and Dr. Oz. Ackerman – a.k.a. Dearest Scooter on the podcast, launched Sleep With Me in 2013 and personally, I swear by it. So do apparently 2.4 million other people who download the free podcast each month. It’s hard to describe the podcast, it’s something about Scooter’s voice, the nonsensical stories, and the fact that you don’t really need to listen. You just tune in and let Dear Scooter work his magic on you – and if you’re like me you’re asleep in under 20 minutes. If I wake up – I put the podcast on again and let Scoots lull me back to sleep. My advice is to listen to it two or three times before you make a judgement, and the trick is not to listen too hard. Sleepwithmepodcast.com is free, but if you love it consider supporting Dear Scoots with a one time or monthly donation – any amount is appreciated and keeps the podcast free for those who really need it.www.sleepwithmepodcast.com

Insight Timer – this is the #1 free app for meditation, relaxation and sleep – with more than 80,000 guided meditations. Tune in first thing in the morning and choose from thousands of meditations from 3 minutes to 60 minutes or take a 10-minute breather to refresh your senses in the afternoon. Start a 30-day meditation practice, or tune into daily live streamed meditations, lectures and Dharma talks by teachers around the world. At bedtime, choose a bedtime story read aloud to lull you (or your kids) off to sleep. There are some great classic titles like The Jungle Book, The Wizard of Oz, Little Red Riding Hood as well as other wonderful and not so well-known stories.Or, tune into a guided meditation like Yoga Nidra for Sleep, or literally thousands of guided meditations or sleep music to help you unwind, relax, and drift off peacefully. You can connect with millions of other fellow meditators, or bring your team together virtually to schedule group meditations, chat, and share content. Check it out – you’re bound to find something there that speaks to you any time of day or night. www.insighttimer.com
